I should probably say emacs is great and so on. And it also has extremly many features, but I usually prefer an IDE if I have choice. One really great IDE is JBuilder from Borland. It is also free and the autocompletion features and class viewing make nearly any API helpß obsolete, because you get all the information you need just by typing.
